Dictionary source and license
The English dictionary is adapted from English Wiktionary, copyright its contributors, extracted with Wiktextract and distributed by Kaikki.org. See also the raw download information.
The dictionary text and our adapted dictionary assets are provided under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International license. A local copy of the full license is included. The material is provided as-is, without warranties, subject to the license. This notice applies to dictionary data, not application code.
Playable words are selected independently from historical project vocabulary, American English SCOWL headwords and word-family proposals, spelling validation, frequency evidence and reviewed regressions. Kaikki supplies definitions and confirmation of word relationships; dictionary presence alone never makes a word playable. Every playable word has a usable modern definition. The common-word tier is stricter than the all-letter tier.
Frequency evidence uses wordfreq 3.1.1 by Robyn Speer, under CC BY-SA 4.0. This includes freely available SUBTLEX data by Marc Brysbaert and colleagues, OpenSubtitles and other sources listed in the full attribution notice. American spelling validation uses SCOWL through dictionary-en; its copyright and license notices are included. There is no British spelling dictionary.
Changes: filtered headwords and senses to the vocabulary policy; retained parts of speech and usable senses[].glosses; added base-word glosses to explain inflections and alternative spellings; merged duplicates; omitted examples, pronunciation, translations and etymologies; split and compacted data into static JSON files. Gloss text is HTML-escaped. Frequency is one selection signal, not an acceptance rule by itself.

The generation report records the source URL, snapshot dates, checksum, word counts and asset sizes. The repository includes a reproducible generator and source lock.
